Silence descends upon the forest. The trilling song of birds is hushed; the flash of flitting squirrels is tilled; the gaudy greens, blues, and browns are all muted until the trees are stripped bare of all but their somber eloquence. The foreground is dark and heavy – reminiscent of the rich soil which gave these plants life. This allusion lends the image a latent power as it draws on the innate bond between the viewer and Mother Earth, as well as suggesting the eternal passage of time. The trees of the background, in the meanwhile, are encompassed in the glittering, radiant glow of the sun and, in fact, seem to be actively reaching out towards the heavens. They appear thinner (therefore younger) and more fruitful than the stoic petrified trucks in front and this represents the hope of youth, as opposed to the wisdom on old age. Past, future and present; life, death, and whatever comes between – it is all embodied in this simple image of nature, a sobering reminder of the silent potency of this earth we tend to take for granted.

El silencio cae sobre el bosque. El trino de los aves se calla; el destello de las ardillas revoloteando se reprime; los verdes, azules, y marrones llamativos se oscurecen hasta que los árboles se desvisten de todo menos su elocuencia sombría. El primer plano es oscuro y pesado- evocador de la tierra rica que dio vida a estas plantas. Esta alusión da a la imagen un poder latente mientras se inspira en el vínculo innato entre el espectador y la Madre Tierra, también sugiriendo el eterno paso del tiempo. Los árboles al fondo, mientras tanto, están rodeados por el resplandor brillante y radiante del sol y, de hecho, parecen estar alcanzando activamente hacia los cielos. Parecen más delgados (y por eso más joven) y más fructíferos que los troncos petrificados y estoicos de enfrente y esto representa la esperanza de la juventud, en lugar de la sabiduría de la vejez. The viewer has no way of knowing the exact hues that went into producing this image, but they don’t need to. Such a varying collection of shades and texture excites the imagination and fills in a rainbow of colors. It is hard to imagine that this was just a field of dirt. It goes to show that art is a living, breathing extension of life: one does not need to go look for it in a museum because it is already here, all around us, if we just open our eyes and look.

El espectador no tiene ninguna manera de saber los tonos exactos que contribuyen a producir esta imagen, pero tampoco tienen que saber. Una colección tan variada de tonos y texturas provoca la imaginación y crea un arcoiris de colores. Es difícil imaginar que esto era un simple campo de tierra. Muestra que el arte es una extensión de la vida que vive y que respira; uno no tiene que ir a buscarlo en un museo porque ya está aquí, a nuestro alrededor, si simplemente abrimos los ojos para verlo.
